Sony Research India to shut operations; files for voluntary liquidation
Sony Research India Private Limited has officially commenced the process of voluntary liquidation, effective April 13, 2026. The move was detailed in a public announcement issued under the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Board of India (Voluntary Liquidation Process) Regulations, 2017. The company, which was incorporated on May 1, 2020, operated out of the WeWork Embassy Tech Village in Bengaluru. Registered under the Registrar of Companies in Karnataka, the entity focused on research and development before reaching this current resolution to wind down operations.

The liquidation process is being overseen by an appointed liquidator to manage claims and assets:

Deadline for Stakeholders
Stakeholders of Sony Research India have been called upon to submit proof of their claims to the liquidator. The submission deadline is May 13, 2026.
According to the official filing:
- Financial Creditors must submit their proof of claims exclusively via electronic means.
- Other Stakeholders may submit claims in person, by post, or electronically.
- Penalties will be strictly enforced for the submission of false or misleading claims.
This development marks the conclusion of the company’s six-year tenure since its establishment in the Karnataka technology hub.
Sony Research India was established in July 2020 as a research company and is part of Sony’s Global Research Organization. The purpose was to create an impact in India through research capabilities in the fields of entertainment, healthcare and sustainable developments.
