The National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) has mandated a dress code for interim resolution professional, resolution professional and liquidators for appearing in the tribunal during the hearings.

The IRP/RP or liquidator must wear a ‘sober’ colour dress or a national dress, a suit or buttoned up coat and tie. Women RPs or liquidators are supposed to wear a ‘sober’ colour saree or a national dress. A suit or buttoned-up coat is optional for women.

If the authorised representative is a Chartered Accountant, Cost Accountant or a company secretary, then he/she should wear the professional dress prescribed for him/her. If there’s no dress code prescribed for them, in that case the code for RP or liquidator should be applicable for authorised representative, as well.

The NCLT even prescribes dress code for the parties involved. “parties appearing before NCLT shall be properly dressed in any national dress and in sober colour,” says the NCLT dictate.

Legal practitioners appearing in NCLT should follow the dress code prescribed by the Bar Council of India.

For president and members (male), the NCLT prescribes trousers (black/white, black stripped or grey) with a white shirt and collar band. Women members should wear sober coloured saree, national dress and collar band with a black coat/buttoned up black coat.
